FSRI Welcomes 2022 Summer Interns
UL’s Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) is pleased to welcome six new summer interns to our team. FSRI’s Internship Program includes positions in multiple departments with the opportunity to provide significant contributions to our mission, as well as relevant experience for students. Over the years, many of our interns have gone on to graduate and start their careers right here at FSRI.
Neil Fung
Instructional Design Intern
Neil Fung, a student enrolled at Towson University, is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Towson University. While at FSRI, Neil will contribute to the creation of impactful learning experiences. He is passionate about supporting learner diversity and strives to help others. Neil is from Hartford County, MD, and enjoys playing video games and arranging music for the piano.
Elizabeth Ottenritter
Communications Intern
Elizabeth Ottenritter is a student at Loyola University Maryland, working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Writing with an emphasis on communications. She is enthusiastic about creative expression and enhancing her communication skills. During her time at FSRI, Elizabeth will be writing content, optimizing project management workflow and working on other projects to support research amplification initiatives. Elizabeth lives in Marriottsville, MD, and enjoys biking and exploring the outdoors.
Malhar Patel
Research Engineer Intern
Malhar Patel is a research engineer intern at FSRI. Currently a student at University of Maryland Baltimore County, he is pursuing an Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and received an Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the L.D. College of Engineering. Originally from Gujarat, India, he came to the United States to complete his graduate studies and will be working in the material properties laboratory conducting tests on materials and their environments. For fun, Malhar plays billiards and likes to read technical blogs.
Paola Rioja
Research Engineer Intern
Paola Rioja, a student at the University of Michigan, is working on a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering. She holds an undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Paola will be assisting FSRI with research on the use of thermographic paint for fire scenarios. When asked what excites her most about her field of study, Paola said she appreciates the wide range of expertise and opportunity mechanical engineering has to offer. A soccer fan from Tampa, FL, Paola also enjoys biomechanics and graphic design.
Dhruv Srinivasan
Research Engineer Intern
Dhruv Srinivasan is enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park and studying for a dual science degree in both Mechanical Engineering and Physics. During his summer with FSRI, he will build data acquisition systems for experiments and work in the materials properties laboratory. In his free time, Dhruv plays percussion and drum kit for two different ensembles.
