Kenny Fent obtained his Master of Science and doctorate in environmental sciences and engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Fent joined NIOSH in 2008, where he currently works as a research industrial hygienist. He is also a Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, where he is a member of a rapid deployment team and has responded to numerous emergency events, including the Ebola response in West Africa. Some of his more notable research at NIOSH has been on assessing dermal and inhalation exposures to combustion byproducts in firefighters. Currently, Dr. Fent is involved in a comprehensive study of cardiovascular and carcinogenic risks during modern firefighting. He also serves on two technical advisory committees for the NFPA Fire Protection Research Foundation and as a consultant on several other research studies. He has published over 45 technical reports and journal articles and presented his findings nationally and internationally.
